Question about Blood Pressure Medicine.......?
-
I'm 4 weeks postpartum and have been suffering from high blood pressure after the birth of my daughter. My doctor ran lab work and ordered a urinalysis, which everything came back normal. My blood was reaching pretty high 164/110 and was causing horrible headaches! So, my doctor prescribed me Enalapril 5 mg twice daily until my blood pressure can stabalize. It took about 1 week for my blood pressure to come down. Today my readings were 125/89 pulse 72 127/86 pulse 70 126/95 pulse 74 132/95 pulse 70 137/80 pulse 71 132/91 pulse 67 164/91 pulse 72 146/97 pulse 66 155/95 pulse 55 I take one pill in the morning and one at night. I've been feeling dizzy which is annoying and it's causing me to feel anxious and stressed. My question is can I just start taking one pill a day instead of 2? I'm afraid of my blood pressure getting too low and me passing out or fainting in my sleep since I heard your pressure drops in your sleep. I've also heard you can have withdraw synptoms from blood pressure medicine. Any advice would be great! :)

Answer:
The dizziness is just a side effect to the new medication. Don't change your medication dose on your own. Your on a very low dose ( low mg ). Your pressure does change a good bit from morning to night as I see in your readings. Sometimes while being pregnant your blood pressure will raise. Normally after you give north it returns to normal but I have seen where it took a little while for your body to return to normal. Just continue following up with your Dr. Hope this helped you and good luck. Hope you feel better soon. PS. If you are using a digital meter to take your blood pressure they are not that accurate. It needs to be taken manually to get a true reading. I have seen huge differences between the 2. Just thought I would mention that to you. And don't use a wrist meter they are never right. Answer my question please.

my strong suggestion is to go for a second opinion, preferably a good physician.

I wouldn't worry about your BP going too low. You're pretty high, so stay with the meds. You won't have any withdrawal effects, but your BP may rebound a little bit. Think about what your body has gone through lately and it's no wonder why you have high blood pressure.
