Answer:
There is absolutlely a genetic component in weighing risk for both diabetes and cardiovascular disease. Since diabetes also confers risk for cardiovascular complications you have a double whammy from a genetic standpoint. If you feel inclined and are 20 or older I suggest you calculate your Framingham Risk to see what your 10 year risk is. http://www.framinghamheartstudy.org/risk/gencardio.html# A proper diet and exercise is a good idea for anyone. Please consider doing that whether you find your risk is high or not. And if I have to scare you into it - All things being the same, your risk of developing heart disease is greater than an individual without the family/genetic component that exists in your family. Thanks, Kenny, PharmD

My friends father, uncle and grandfather , and brother died below the age of 50. He was not having any trouble like Hypertension or diabetics. He never had any problem like short of breath or angina. His doctor children requested him to check for clogged arteries. He underwent the angiography and to the surprise he had multy vessel disease. more than 90% blockages found in artery's. He underwent bye pass and leading normal life. It is just possible but not sure that you may have diabetics or heart attack. Take care and check up regularly. Have a nice life ahead.

You don't have a definate answer now. If your lazy, smoke, drink, lay at home all day, eat junk food, and greasy foods all day then of course you'll be "one of them." That's for ANYBODY. However, if you EXERCISE, eat healthy, don't smoke, don't drink, and take care of your body, then you'll have a way less chance of getting one. Don't let your family history determine yours! Be healthy. Start now. End this chain. Hope all goes well.

Extensive clinical and statistical studies have identified several factors that increase the risk of coronary heart disease and heart attack. Major risk factors are those that research has shown significantly increase the risk of heart and blood vessel (cardiovascular) disease. Contributing risk factors Other factors are associated with increased risk of cardiovascular disease, but their significance and prevalence haven't yet been precisely determined. Modifiable risk factors The American Heart Association has identified several risk factors. Some of them can be modified, treated or controlled, and some can't. Risk calculations The more risk factors you have, the greater your chance of developing coronary heart disease. Also, the greater the level of each risk factor, the greater the risk. For example, a person with a total cholesterol of 300 mg/dL has a greater risk than someone with a total cholesterol of 245 mg/dL, even though everyone with a total cholesterol greater than 240 is considered high-risk. It accounts for more than 440,000 of the more than 2.4 million annual deaths. Cigarette smokers have a higher risk of developing several chronic disorders. These include fatty buildups in arteries, several types of cancer and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (lung problems). Atherosclerosis (buildup of fatty substances in the arteries) is a chief contributor to the high number of deaths from smoking. Many studies detail the evidence that cigarette smoking is a major cause of coronary heart disease, which leads to heart attack. How does smoking affect coronary heart disease risk? Well-known risk factors for coronary atherosclerosis and heart attacks are:-- * Elevated levels of LDL cholesterol (the "bad" cholesterol) in the blood; * Family history of early coronary heart disease, including a heart attack or sudden death before age 55 in the father or other male first-degree relative, or before age 65 in the mother or other female first-degree relative; * Cigarette smoking; * Diabetes mellitus; * High blood pressure; * Low levels of HDL (the "good" cholesterol) in the blood; and * Sedentary lifestyle. Try to reduce the risk factors by food, exercise and change of lifestyle. Adopt DASH diet (Mediterranean diet). Eat a low-cholesterol, low-fat diet, which includes cottage cheese, fat-free milk, fish, vegetables, poultry, and egg whites. Use monounsaturated oils such as olive, peanut, and canola oils or polyunsaturated oils such as corn, safflower, soy, sunflower, cottonseed, and soybean oils. Avoid foods with excess fat in them such as meat (especially liver and fatty meat), egg yolks, whole milk, cream, butter, shortening, pastries, cakes, cookies, gravy, peanut butter, chocolate, olives, potato chips, coconut, cheese (other than cottage cheese), coconut oil, palm oil, and fried foods.
