I have hypoglycemia, i dont know if it is reactive or fasting, but i need to lose weight the healthy way, how?
-
Im 19 years old and i was diagnosed with hypoglycemia a year ago. Soon after I went to college and most of my symptoms subsided, however that was because I ate so often I was always getting enough nutrition. But because of that I gained the so called "freshmen 15". I am now home for the summer and I'm ready to lose the weight. So I quit eating, and just had one good bigger meal at 4pm. My mom said this is how she lost weight when she was young.About a week later my hypoglycemia symptoms came back full force. I was having severe headaches, so tired I couldn't make it through the day with a 3 hour nap, I was irritable, shaky, it goes on and on. After 2 wks of this I decided I needed to start eating better because I cant handle feeling like that, going to work 8 hrs a day and taking night classes. this also left me with no energy to exercise. it is hard for me to eat regularly now without feeling like Im gaining weight. How do I lose weight and comply with a hypoglycemic diet

Answer:
Dr. Fuhrman's diet is very effective and simple. Basics are, high nutrition to Calorie ratio foods that satisfy the hunger and nourish the body without excess carbs and fats. It helped me to not only lose 50 pounds, but I no longer require any medication for my type two diabetes. More on that here: http://www.geocities.com/seabulls69/Type_II_Diabetes.html Combine that with some mild daily exercise, like walking or cycling for a half hour to an hour, and you'll lose weight surprisingly fast.

To lose weight successfully, you should know the food that you eat can either make you THIN or FAT!!! Yes,it is really important. You should know the truth: 1.Low Fat Foods DON\'T always WORK... 2.Low Calorie Diets DON\'T always WORK... 3.Low Carb Plans DON\'T always WORK... I followed the guide above and I lost 7 lbs in 11 days and then 30 lbs in less than a month. I followed the guide on: <---http://www.fitnessreport.info Hope it can help you.

In the book "What Your Doctor May Not Tell You About Fibromyalgia" by R. Paul St. Amand, M.D., there is an excellent chapter about hypoglycemia and there are 2 diets: 1 is the strict hypoglycemia diet for weight loss, and the other is the liberal one to maintain your weight. There is also a website: http://www.fibromyalgiatreatment.com/Research_HGdiet.htm where you will find the 2 diets, as well as recipes and meal suggestions. However, I still think it's important to read the hypoglycemia chapter in the book (you can just get it out of the library) for a deeper understanding of your condition and the diet and how it works for you and to understand the importance of sticking strictly to the diet. I've been on this diet for a couple of years and feel so much better (as long as I stick to it). Give it a try! I'll bet you'll be feeling better in a couple of weeks. The headaches and the shakiness and irritability, etc. will all ease up, and you'll have more energy to do what you need to do. I swear by this diet - it has changed my life. Good luck! Mick

I surely empathsize. I've had hypoglycemia my entire life.-since age 15...Now over 55.. You can never go without eating..or you can crash..big time... But.. A way to loose weight safely... Is to eat small frequent meals of protein and fruit... Supplement in between with a HEALTHY protein drink.. The drink should have high protein...mod fat..mod carbs... LOW SUGar BE CAREFUL OF TOO MUCH FAT... Be CAREFUL OF SUGAR BE CAREFUL OF ALCOHOL BE CAREFUL OF DEHYDRATION Alot of the over the counter so called protein diet drinks are PACKED WITH SUGER and NOT what you need.. So read labels.. You want high protein...less than 25% fat (ratio fat to protein) Low sugar..mod carbs... To diet I'd eat..small bagel and drink in am... 3-4 protein drinks.. Light protein.fruit, salad at night..Limiting to 500-750 calories day depending on excersize level. Always drink lots of fluid. I find a drink like propel with some glucose and electrolytes works better for me than water when dietin.. Lastly..carry a healhty protein bar, or nuts, or trail mix at all times so IF you feel a crash..you can do a quick munch... Hypogylcemia can be BOTH fasting and reactive.Eating too much sugar...can give you a high and then cause DRAMATIC drop out.. For myself..I cant handle orange juice or candy...and eat very little meat.. Really never ever been aNY problem except if I forget to eat... NO WORRY!!! Better than other issues....Wont give ya long range problems..Just diet control... Nurse Andrea

Weight Loss can be difficult for the hypoglycemics as any sort of of unsual physical activity will lead to hypoglycemia. As said by Mr Peachy, the Diabetes Guru , you can use the Dr Fuhrmans Diet. For more on hypoglycemia visit my free website http://www.reddiabetes.com

I completely empathize with you as i had similar issues with my freshmen year. I see that a lot of people have already given you diet advice, which i actually find funny seeing as how you made it pretty clear that you already know the proper diet and have followed it before. I guess all i can say, and what helped me, is that you not only need to follow the diet, but you also need to excersise. Now i'm assuming right about now you are upset that i'm suggesting this because it's an obvious answer that i'm sure you've considered, and it's very easy for someone to say you should do it, but actually doing it is another thing. However, it is the only thing that made the difference for me before. I know you may think you don't have enough tiume. However, currently i work 40+ hours a week, i am taking summer classes, i do volunteer work and i still manage to fit working out in there nearly every day. So i hardly think time is a constraint, i think it's more like a convenient excuse. Working out is harder when you are hypoglycemic, i know this, i've been there. However, if you are following the diet appropriately then you should be able to workout without getting light headed. And hopefully you won't have to increase your food intake to keep up with it, although it is my experience that i don't end up eating more just because i work out as long as i am following the high protien, high good fats, high fiber/vegetable diet that hypo's are supposed to follow. And eating often is crucial, so never eliminate that. I'm not sure if this helps a lot. I apologize becuase i know this is easier to say than to do. But you can rest assured that i have been there and that this is what you need to do to get out of that weight gaining slump caused from eating often. Good luck!!!!

Eat breakfast, lunch & small dinners with whole grains. The whole grains will help keep your blood sugar stable and you'll burn off the calories from breakfast & lunch.
