What are the bioethical issue of insulin?

REPOST::: Insulin Resistant with PCOS HELP!?

  • I was diagnosed with Insulin Resistance and PCOS in June of 2010. I was not given any information into the IR issue of my diagnosis and was put on Yaz birth control to help with the PCOS despite telling her we are TTC. So I have done some research in these past weeks but cannot seem to find a clear answer as to whether or not Insulin Resistance can cause you to be pre diabetic or type 1 or 2 diabetic. Also she mentioned metformin to help with weight loss but never prescribed it to me. Also what are some of the sympotms you would feel with insulin issues. Currently I struggle with high blood pressure, migraine head aches, inability to loose weight, extreme fatigue, sometimes excessive thirst or cravings for red meat. I have an appointment with a reproductive endocrinologist on Oct 1st will He be able to help me with any of the issues as well? I just need some help or some answers or some insight into this as I have not a clue what is going on. Thanks Additional Details Forgot to mention I also get UTI's frequently even with bathing every day and peeing before and after sex. Got only one answer the first time so I am still looking for a good answer.

  • Answer:

IR increases your chances of developing diabetes, but if properly treated you can live your life without ever developing any form of diabetes. No offense, but your doctor sounds like a bit of a jackass. She may just be waiting to start you on any meds for the IR until after you see the Endo, but she should have been more informative with you and more accommodating to your needs. The symptoms of IR vary a lot, some people showing none at all. Common symptoms are high blood pressure, obesity around the midsection, brain fog/fatigue, high blood glucose and triglycerides, abnormal cholesterol levels, acne and sugar cravings. Your Endo will be much more capable of informing you about this condition and treating it. This type of illnesss is what they specialize in. They should be able to find you the right medication and diet plan to manage you symptoms.

Hello. YOu should have been put on metformin immediately. It will control your weight and will assist you at bringing you down to a healthy weight, if you're overweight. With PCOS, you really need to watch the amount of carbs you eat and workout. My girlfriend was diagnosed and is a very healthy weight for having PCOS. Not all women with PCOS are overweight.
