PCOS and METFORMIN??????
-
I am experiencing infertility, my husband and i have been trying for a baby now for a little over a year with no luck, i decided to go and see an infertility specialist whom after two visits diagnosed me with PCOS. I thought it wasn't possible i had no symptoms other than the infertility and absense of periods.. But i did, he had done some blood tests which revealed that i have elevated testosterone levels and high estrogen, everything else was great meaning my LH, FSH, Glucose was good, He told me he would like to put me on Metformin, i heard it can restore ovulation and improve chances of conception, possibly decrease my chances of having miscarriages (have had 3 losses so far, all in between 3-5 months along)..Anyways he told me he wanted to do an HSG and a Hysteroscopy befor going ahead with the medication, the only problem is i cannot afford those procedures at the moment..I know you can get metformin online but when and how should i use it? when in my cycles? please help!

Answer:
I would encourage you to continue with your healthcare provider and level with her/him about your ability to afford the procedures they want to do. Your provider may still want you to take the Metformin. This drug is very cheap and can be gotten for four dollars at Walmart. Polycystic ovarian disease does not go away. It can lead to other problems with time and may need several madications. Thankfully, most of these meds are cheap. Follow through with provider long term care for yourself....even if you can't afford the procedures.

Yes, metformin apparently has medical benefits beyond glucose control. I'm not certain if the mechanism has been discovered or not, but it apparently will help with PCOS and has even been used to help increase the chance of pregnancy. But please don't go buying medications online through some disreputable physician whom you'll never meet, and has no way (and maybe no interest in) to check on your progress and adjust your dosage. Also, there is MASSIVE evidence of fraudulent prescription medications being sold online thru foreign companies. Many of these drugs sold online are out of date, substandard, or have little to no active drug in them, and occasionally the wrong drug in them.
