Is it possible to have a high insulin but normal blood sugar levels?

What blood sugar levels doctors recomend insulin shots?

  • I just started tracking my sugar levels I had 510 before I went to sleep and this morning before breakfast 293. I believe I have this condition for about a year but recently made a decision to do something about it. Yesterday was my first visit with the doctor (I know shame on me) What I am afraid is that seeing this high results plus whatever lab results she gets, she will recomenend insulin shots.

  • Answer:

Your doctor will undoubtedly have you do a fasting blood test called an HbA1c test. This test will tell your doctor what your blood sugar averages have been for the past three months. With blood sugar in the 500 range, your doctor may do a C-peptide test or a GAD antibody test to see if you have type one or type two diabetes. If your doctor finds you have type two, you may be put on an oral medication and sent to see a nutritionist to help you with a diet that will keep your blood sugar down. There is no doubt that you have diabetes, it just isn't clear what type you have or what your treatment may be. Exercise is important in controlling diabetes however, while your blood sugars are running as high as they are, you should not do strenuous exercise until you and your doctor lower your blood glucose levels. Good luck!

She may do that, but there are easy ways to do that, little pins that are preloaded and dial the amount you need. Not painful.. Hoping you don't have to do that. good luck

When I first went in I was in the upper 100's low 200's and I have to shoot up every meal. I can guarantee that you will too if you are getting that high. At first I had a horrible horrible horrible time giving myself the shots. After a while it's no big deal and you barely feel it.

I don't really think she will recommend insulin yet!! She will allow you some time to try to tame the numbers with diet, exercising (loosing some weight) and probably oral meds. There is hope for you in that it was down to 293 at breakfast time!!! If you just take the meds, change your food plan and do more walking, you may be able to go for years before joining me in stabbing my bod multiple times daily!!! Just realize that you have done yourself some great harm for ignoring the problem for a while!! Any reading over 126 is damaging to the tiny nerve endings and blood vessels all through the bod!!! I value my eyes, fingers and toes and want to walk there when my baby grandson graduates from college!!! So I am on very low grams of carb per day, about 100 g, and walking an hour every day in addition to heavy house cleaning and gardening work.
