All of a sudden my blood runs thick?

I have a White Blood Cell Count of 3.3 and I am healthy. Should I worry because it runs low?

  • For the past 16 years, when having blood work, my white blood cell count comes back low most of time and occasionally will come up to a normal level, though not often. I have no other problems. The rest of my blood work is fine. I am very healthy otherwise. Is this cause for concern?

  • Answer:

Here are some of the causes of low white blood cell count. Medications Vitamin deficiency Nutrition deficiency Infection (usually viral) Autoimmune diseases Idiopathic Bone marrow failure Liver disease Spleen disease If this has happened for the past 16 years and you are regularly getting checked and the rest of your blood work is fine your doctor should know what he/she is doing by not diagnosing you with any causes for low whie blood count and I assume you have no symptoms since you state you are very healthy. I would just keep getting checked to make sure your levels do not drop further but I'm sure your doctor would have put you on a medication for this if he/she saw a problem. So, I guess there is no reason to worry at this time. Hope this helps.
