This sounds to me a bit like a homework question not a personal question. So with that said the first person to answer is correct about a person with Type II diabetes. A Type II's body has become "resistance" to insulin but does still produce it this is why shots are not required; so given time their levels could go back to being normal. In a Type I this is not the case, if the pancreas has completely shut down then there is no way for the levels to go back down without a shot of insulin. In a undiagnosed person it could be that they are in the "honeymoon" stage. What this means is the pancreas is shutting down but is still able to produce insulin - just not regularly. Often people who are Type I go through a time when they will have high sugars but then it will go back to normal because they are still functioning just at a lower level - until eventually it shuts down all together. It often takes up to a year to diagnose a Type I diabetic.

Other factors may decrease the blood glucose- like exercise or stress. As long as you don't eat for a period of time the blood sugar should gradually go down as the carb content does not remain in the body forever. Some diabetics (especially Type II) do secrete some insulin without using injections, so that helps as well.

First in a person with say type 1 diabetes untreated, the blood glucose levels can be extremely high even as high as 800mg/dl. Insulin is required for glucose to enter certain tissues like the ones you mentioned, however not all tissues/organs need insulin for glucose uptake. Example the brain's primary fuel is glucose and does not require insulin to utilize it. In the case of untreated DM glucose levels will not drop, the body will continue to make it from the skeletons of amino acids in a process called gluconeogenesis. The kidneys will not be able to reabsorb the excess glucose and glucose will be present in the urine. finally you will go into what is called ketoacidosis, go into a coma and without treatment die.

In most diabetic patients, insulin is there and in good amount but the receptors (doors on the cells) which permit entry of Insulin into the cells are not working properly. However it does not mean that glucose will not enter the cells at all. It wil slowly through some doors. If you increase the level of Insulin by giving Insulin this will enehnace the entry. If on the other hand if you increase the number of receptors e.g. by gaining more weight, less glucose will enter the cells.

basicly if you are untreated, thats dangerous first and for most, second, you need to balance your diet, stay away from sugars starches, and carbs, dont cut them out, completely, everyone needs them to stay healthy, but moderate them, you need to look on the web or talk to a dr about you pirticular tolerance level, once you get that figured out, maintaining your sugar level will be a sinch!
