How much sugar can the average person ingest before they get diabetes?

  • Ok so I really love sugar. Some nights I'll even have 2 desserts and my dad always says I'm going to get fat and have diabetes and that I won't get insurance because the insurance company won't help me since I'll be in such bad shape. I wanted to know how many grams of sugar I should ingest a day so I can keep from getting diabetes.

You do not get diabetes from eating sugar. Type 1 diabetes is genetic and type 2 is caused by being overweight and/or elderly. So I guess technically, if you eat too much sugar and get too fat you could get type 2 diabetes. But it wouldn't entirely be from eating too much sugar.

Type 2 diabetes occurs when the body can't respond to insulin normally. You can have your cake and eat it too, just not the whole cake! People with diabetes need to control the total amount of carbohydrates in their diet, and sugary treats count as carbohydrates. But this doesn't mean that they can't have any sweets. It just means that they should put the brakes on eating too many sweets and other types of foods that are high in calories and low in nutrients like vitamins and minerals. Eating too many of these foods can also make it less likely you'll want to eat healthier foods. Your dad is right many individual insurance companies deny diabetic applicants since they consider diabetes a serious pre-existing condition but there are other ways such as Cobra, high risk pools, state programs that are available for diabetics but, in some cases, can be harder and costlier. You can eat sugar all day and eat sugar all night and never get diabetes. Sugar isn't the issue - all carbohydrates metabolize into a form of sugar through digestion. But eating carbs won't cause diabetes either. Food does not cause diabetes. However, a bad diet can lead to weight gain and people who are overweight are at higher risk to develop diabetes and people with diabetes do have problems getting health insurance.

sugar does not cause diabetes but gaining too much weight and being obese causes type 2 diabetes. but with type 2 diabetics if they lose enough weight fast enough then they can get rid of it unlike type 1 diabetics who are stuck with it for life. so there isnt really a certain stopping point or anything of how much sugar you can intake just keep your weight under control. So your dad was kind of right because he said youll get fat and have diabetes.

justin tyme is wrong. there is no chemical that causes diabetes. type 2 diabetes is always from weight. it depends on how much you weigh and not how much sugar you eat. if you get regular exercise and you dont eat too much then you will be fine. you can eat 1000 candy bars a day and as long as you burn them all off then you wont get diabetes. (fyi burning off 1000 candy bars would be impossible please do not try this at home lol) after you get the diabetes then your sugar intake matters. but before then just make sure you dont laze around the house all day and get plenty of exercise.

Excessive sugar consumption does not cause diabetes. If you do not have diabetes genes, you can have all the sugar you want and never become diabetic. But if you do have diabetes genes, you can completely abstain from sugar and you could still develop diabetes.

White flour is probably worse,as there is a diabetes causing chemical called Alloxan in it.Green tea will balance your blood sugar and spirulina.Avoid white flour or get organic.Cut back on junk food.You don`t have to totally give it up.Drink green tea or get it in capsules.
