Is it possible to have a high insulin but normal blood sugar levels?

Recording blood sugar levels, insulin and food and times?

  • I am tearing my hair out! The stupid little books they give you from the hospital to record your blood sugar levels simply do not work for me! I have to record the following:- Date Time of test Result Type of insulin (I use 2 types) Time of each insulin injection Health - ie whether infection, stressed etc ALL food eaten and times Other comments. Could anyone please tell me just how I could design a sheet for this information to go on one page? This is sooooo frustrating and I do not understand how I am supposed to find the time to stop and write everything down and keep it uptodate.

  • Answer:

You can create your own spread sheet on the computer or use a pen and paper and set it up however your like. My son's diabetes doctor has some sheets that you may like better than the book you have see: www.integrateddiabetes.com The format is not important but the data is VERY important. Good data = good control.

You are absolutely correct that the little books that are included with glucometers are of absolutely no value. I recommend that patients discard them and set up a 'spread sheet' type format on the computer. The spread sheet would have columns such as date / day / time [military time is best] / insulin / dosage. You may record health and food intake as footnotes or on a 2nd page. Some glucometers now have USB ports and I strongly encourage these. They will print out / average / graph most of the above information for you. I have patients bring their glucometers in to my office and plug them into the computer for such a print out. Otherwise I ask patients to email the above information every week or two. If I may be of further assistance please let me know. I wish you the very best of health and in all things may God bless. JR

STOP WHAT YOUR DOING,listen, don't let this disease rule your life, i should know. there is no need to write any thing down , just get a decent blood meter they record data automatically. when you go to hospital for check up take your usb adapter with you and simply down load.

personally i just gave up, but i got told off so now i use an app on my iPod Touch? perhaps if you had one of those or any iPhone you could do the same much easier that way? par from that i don't know what to say!
