What are the prospect on a cure of type 2 diabetes in the near future?

oak,I am a Chinese Friend.and what I know about the different treatment of diabetes 2 is to use Chinese Herbs and maybe you can try qi gong.I saw some diabetes 2 patients' symptoms controlled by the TCM doctors.the blood sugar just come down.but please tell your friend to control the right diets and have some sports.

It has nothing to do with stem cell research. Some people have "cured" themself just by eating right and exersize over a long period of time. There are some promising drugs to control it, but I have not seen anything look promising as a cure.

It actually has EVERYTHING to do with stem cell research. Diabetes type 2 is when your body makes enough insulin, but there is a resistance to the uptake of it in the blood stream to reduce the blood sugar levels. By using stem cells, scientists can transplant fresh cells into the pancreas that are not resistant in hopes to encourage the insulin uptake. The problem here is, is that there's a huge lack of federal funding for stem cell research. Many of these advances in medicine would arrive much sooner if the money was there/allocated for the research.
