Can drinking coke cause diabetes?

Increased thirst but definitively not diabetes?

  • Hey guys Can you help shed some light on my situation This is what I consumed today Morning: 500ml of water and 1 cup of green tea Afternoon: 460ml of coke and another green tea About 17:00 I went on a walk/jog session where I jogged about 2km and walked about 4km's. It was relatively warm outside. When I came back I didn't consume anything When I ate tonight I consumed another 750ml of coke, I don't drink so much coke by the way, maybe once a month I am really thirsty now? What could be the cause of this? I definitely don't have diabetes, I had blood work done 2 weeks ago and my fasting blood sugar was 4.8mmol/l, glucose tolerance test was normal and my HBA1C was 5.3% . And I know this is normal values, so no concern about this. And there is no way how I can get diabetes in 2 weeks time. No one in my family has diabetes either. Please help

  • Answer:

Well when I was diagnosed, I had just been to the Doctor in the morning and reviewed the results of my last blood test which showed an A1C of 5.5%, no indications of diabetes. Had a large lunch, stomach pains, then the thirst and finally to the hospital where they said my glucose levels were in the high 700's mg/ml, upwards of 42 mmol/L, they kept me at the hospital for about a week. Sometimes, the onset is fast, get a free glucose meter.
