Insulin shock is an out dated term that is very rarely used. I am a diabetes nurse and I haven't seen that term in print in years. The correct term is hypoglycemia. Are you asking a question about how low blood sugar is treated in an Emergency room? Or how to treat low blood sugar at home or work? The causes of low blood sugar could be too much insulin or diabetes pills, not enough food to balance the diabetes medication or more exercise than usual. You can treat low blood sugar between 50 and 70 with 15 grams of carbohydrates. If it is below 50, then eat 30 grams of carbohydrates. If you are unconscious, then some one else can give you an injection of Glucagon or Gluca-Gen. If there is no glucagon kit available then some one needs to call 911 for you and the medics can give you IV glucose. When you wake up then you need to eat carbohydrates to keep your blood sugar in the normal range.

The answer is C. However, a physician would be a little late. If someone is suffering from insulin shock, assistance is needed immediately...from family, friends or emergency services. I'm an EMT and I have treated people for low blood sugar long before they saw a doctor. I would give either oral glucose, IV glucose or Glucagon. By the time the patient got to the hospital, the patient's sugar would be coming back up and the patient would be regaining consciousness and stabilizing. Many people don't realize the seriousness of hypoglycemia. It can be life threatening. It should be treated as soon as symptoms appear. Don't wait to get the person to a doctor...call 911. EMT

I am scared to death that you may be on call one day, when I am very ill. You NEED to learn this stuff- not just get the answers. Oh Goodness.

You would get a glucose injection so that the insulin can convert the sugar to energy. I say C.

C.

You Betcha!

It is most definitly C. Way easier to give someone a shot from a glucagon kit then it is to "remove" anything.

the correct answer is C because you cannot remove insulin from the body. you are correct in what causes insulin shock/hypoglycemia though. But all a Doctor can do is gi8ve glucose and monitor the blood sugars.
