What is complete thyroid panel?

Thyroid Levels Information?

  • Hey I have an important question that has been bugging me for a while. First I'm going to give you a little back ground information and my symptoms. -16 years old. I went to the doctor recently and they did a full blood panel but I noticed they never tested my thyroid after I asked. Well the other day I was looking over my blood results and noticed they never checked my thyroid. I noticed my zinc was way off balance though, like a 42. I've been checking my blood pressure recently too its been about 140/85 which really isnt good at all. Im a very active girl, I cheer for my high school and im in my high school show choir. That means i at least get 4 hours of extercise a day. Starting a while ago, I got frequent unirary track infections I knew something was wrong but never really acted on it. Recently though things have gotten way out of hand. I get really tired really fast. I use to wake up at 7 o clock and go to sleep at 9. I have been having panic attacks. My eyes mess with me a lot. Sometimes I feel like I have to yawn just to get air. My nurologist told me he thinks my symptoms arent anxiety related. I went to a kid doctor too he acted like I was a complete idiot and didnt even test me. He did some very light test and months later called and said i needed a thyroid test done after ive been asking for a while now. I get adomanal pain and I get really tired really fast. I sleep way longer than I use to. I get depressed easily and I get a lot of anxiety. My throat always feels swollen. Sometimes Ill wake up and half my face feels puffy. My nails are very brittlle along with my hair. What does this sound like to you?

  • Answer:

What you're going through sounds very similar to how I felt when I was 18. I went to the doctor a couple of times, and eventually gave up. None of them wanted to listen to me, and didn't seem to care about what I was going through. Around the same time my sister realized that she had endometriosis. She went to a lot more doctors then I did, and they all told her she was over reacting and that her symptoms were normal. Eventually she convinced one doctor to test her and they discovered that she did have endometriosis. In short, I have little faith in doctors these days. Anyway, I never found out what was wrong with me (besides the obvious fact that my hormones were unbalanced) but I did realize WHY things were wrong. I wasn't eating healthy. Before this I just thought that it didn't matter what I ate, as long as I wasn't fat. If I wasn't fat, then I must be eating healthy. I was eating a lot of processed wheat products (like white bread, and breakfast bars) and drinking a lot of milk. For dinner I usually ate meat and starchy vegetables. That is a terrible diet. Processed foods turn into sugar in your body, milk is mostly sugar and fat, starchy vegetables turn into sugar, and an excess of sugar can mess up a lot of things. For one your body will burn sugar before anything else. Two, your body has to spend a lot of it's resources digesting sugar. So much that it will steal calcium from your bones and teeth, nutrients from the rest of your body, and can even give you a fatty liver (yeah, that thing that happens when you're an alcoholic.) If your liver is taxed, or another part of your body like your thyroid, or anything it'll send off warning signals to the rest of your body (hormones!) and bad stuff will start happening all over the place. These symptoms are really just signs. Your body is telling you that it needs help. I was also low on iron, so at the beginning I started taking SlowFE to help with dizzy spells. I didn't need it for long however because I changed my diet and within a week I felt completely different. I started checking out www.whfoods.com to see which vegetables have which nutrients, I also read "Eat to Live", and using this information I managed to build a diet that could finally give me relief. Now I try to mainly eat leafy green vegetables, A LOT of them, and I add new and exciting vegetables to my diet whenever I can. I try to avoid starchy vegetables, and not to eat too many fatty vegetables like avocados. I don't know what your problem is, but I do know that no matter what it is, eating more vegetables (and lots of them!) can help you feel better. Because if your body gets the nutrients and fuel that it needs, it will be able to take care of you. Even if it can't solve your problem, like if you had cancer or something. It would still help you to feel better and to get the most out of your life in the time that you had left. "Eat to Live" is an interesting read and a good introduction to the idea of eating vegetables to live, and to help your body to heal itself. However it focuses a bit too much on weight loss, and I don't agree with everything in it. I still recommend it, though. If I remember correctly there also happens to be a pirated pdf floating around for download (if you know where to look) if you are hesitant about buying it.
