What does low platelets and high hemoglobin mean?

What does a high creatinine level mean along with some other readings?

• I'm not facing good things and things are getting worse. My creatinine level is rising, my wbc and rbc is low, as well as my hemoglobin and hematocrit. My rdw is high. Platelets are at 202. Lymphocyte is low, monocytes are high. Carbon dioxide is reduced. Glucose is good, but my creatinine started all this at 3.6. clearance creatinine is 28.3. I'm not near dialysis, but I don't want to wait 2 weeks for the followup doctor's appointment about these labs. yes, I was on chemo for a year but stopped 6 weeks ago. CAT scans and PET from 4 weeks ago came back good, but my kidneys are now acting up. IV fluids didn't help. From all my research, I think the cancer is back in the form of multiple myeloma with the high protein levels. Any ideas on what the combination of factors mean? And yes, I've called the doctor's office to get in sooner. I didn't go thru a years worth of chemo and radiation and surgery, only to have the kidney specialist drag their feet.!!!! Any suggestions as to what to ask the doctor when I go back to review these results? thanks

  High creatinine level definately means kidney problems. it COULD be dietary, but based on your other problems, kidney disease is almost a sure bet. but this problem COULD have been caused by the chemo, and may fix itslef with time. I mean, you have been of chemo for ONLY 6 weeks! Your doctro might want to wait for 3-4 MONTHS before making a decision. You will want to know your Glomerular Filtration Rate (GFR). GFR is a measure of how well your kidneys are function. This is a mathematical calculation based on the Creatine level, your age, and sex. ideally, it is above 60%, but in your case it would seem to be between 25% and 50%. if it falls below 20%, you are a candidate for dialysis. What most lay people don't know is that your kidneys control your blood cell production. The kidneys produce a hormone (Erythropoietin, or simply EPO) that tells your bone marrow to produce more blood. When you have kidney disease this mechanism fails and you have low RBC and WBC, and thus you become anemic. High proteins COULD mean Multiple Myeloma, but high proteins are ALSO a sign of kidney disease, alone. There is also another disease, called MGUS, that will cause the protein problem, and APPEARS much like MM. You need a bone marrow biopsy to determine this. I think that you are unnecessarily scaring yourself, without more sufficient evidence of MM. Right now, the important questions to ask the doctor are: 1) What do the test result mean? 2) What is my GFR? 3) Should I have a Dialysis Fistula installed now, so that it has time to grow before I need it? 4) What are my options?
