What are the bioethical issue of insulin?

What makes the body insulin resistant and how to rectify the anamoly?

  • In type 2 diabetis it is the resistance of the cells in the body to Insulin which is the cause of the ailment. We know several ways to improve the capacity of cells to improve absortion of sugar. However we are not sure what makes the cells to resist insulin over a period. If the cause of the same is identified probably we can resolve the issue of type 2 diabetis. In other words what we should do to body cells to permit insulin to due its duty?

  • Answer:

Insulin resistance isn't the cause of Type 2 diabetes. Some Type 2s aren't insulin resistant, but more importantly many insulin-resistant people aren't and won't ever become Type 2 diabetic. Diabetes seems to occur when the pancreas' beta cells die and fail to regenerate. A person who is insulin resistant merely makes more insulin to compensate, but a person who has insulin resistant Type 2 for some reason can't do that. As blood sugar goes up, more beta cell death occurs, and that advances the disease. We don't really know the cause of insulin resistance, but even if we did, that wouldn't necessarily help us cure diabetes. At best it'd slow down the rate of development in some people who will later become Type 2 because they wouldn't need as much insulin to control blood sugar.

There are far more than one way for insulin resistance to occur, there could be fewer insulin receptors, the insulin receptors could be a slightly different shape, some cells like fat cells could be absorbing undue amounts of insulin, some molecules may be binding with the insulin preventing it's use. There's actually a wide range in the shape and size of insulin and often insulin resistance will be to one's own insulin but not to another's. Sorry but it's not going to be as simple as finding a single cause for insulin resistance as there's a plethora of possible causes and many will operate together to inhibit insulin use. Nice try though.

No one knows the exact cause of insulin resistance. Find out the answer and I can guarantee you the Nobel prize for medicine. Certain drugs (e.g., metformin) can reduce insulin resistance. No one knows exactly how these drugs affect insulin resistance. Reducing a person's weight reduces the insulin resistance. As does removal of part of the upper intestines. The cause of this is controversial. It may have to do with removal of certain kinds of cells in that line the upper intestinal track. Insulin resistance drops after such surgery EVEN BEFORE THE PATIENT STARTS TO LOSE WEIGHT. http://scholar.google.com/scholar?q=insulin+resistance&hl=en&btnG=Search&as_sdt=1%2C5&as_sdtp=on

It was not clear whether you are the victim of diabetes. Even then you can follow the links to find Karkade candy and glucosil in the following links. http://www.facebook.com/pages/Artlife-International/263835530329000 Insulin is a hormone produced in pancrease to control the and process the glucose obtain from food. When pancrease will undergo weakness then insulin will unable to process the glucose level and hence you need to take external(Insulin) injection timely medicines. If not then...... you can imagine the symptoms. The pancreas controls insulin production. That is why certain pills and/or insulin is prescribed

If they knew the answer to this they could probably find a cure or a way to reverse the disabled cells, or at least make it so no more cells become resistant. At this point, exercise does help.
