Excessive sweating! help me?

Help with excessive sweating?

  • I suffer from excessive sweating. It only occurs in my armpits but happens everyday (although not at night or when I am comfortably at home). I am not over weight and eat healthy. I suppose I am quite socially nervous, despite having a group of lovely friends and enjoying being social, even it does make me nervous. I really don't want to go to the GP about excessive sweating because I am really embarrassed (also my mum would probably come with me/find out - further embarrassment) So I'm wondering if anyone has any advise they could offer? I am a member of a youth theatre and we're doing a play soon and I'm fretting about costumes and it just affects my life in a huge way and I really want to find away to sort it out. My periods are still irregular, so maybe it is a hormone thing? I would really appreciate any help. Thank you!

Don't freak out. It sounds like you have hyperhidrosis (medical condition of excessive sweating). You can start managing it most effectively by applying a good antiperspirant like Secret Clinical before you go to bed. To reduce skin irritation, make sure your skin is completely dry. If that doesn't give you enough relief, then talk to your dermatologist about getting Botox injections. It is a fantastic treatment and lasts for months and in some cases a year. Since it's FDA approved, most insurance companies cover the costs. You can find out tons of info about this and all the other treatments for hyperhidrosis through the non-profit organization International Hyperhidrosis Society. They are great and their web site even have a Physician Finder and free newsletter. Every year they offer events where you can get free Botox treatments but you have to be a subscriber to their newsletter to participate. Check it out www.SweatHelp.org.

Have you been checked for hyperthyroidism? That could be the cause of the sweating and irregular periods. If it's not hyperthyroidism, then it just could be another hormonal issue.

It's probably just anxiety, try a stronger deodorant which you can get at the supermarket. Hope this helps.
