Does losing weight cure diabetes and heart issues?
-
I was told it does, and I have plenty of scientific research that shows otherwise. A lot of new scientific research nowadays is saying it does not cure diabetes, etc. Inflammation causes diabetes and and heart issues, high cholesterol, and even possibly obesity itself. But I was told that if you lost weight that your diabetes will go away, and my dad uses my mom as evidence because she had bariatric surgery and now she has no more heart issues or diabetes. but i don't understand, is it the weight loss that caused the inflammation to go down, or was it something else?

Answer:
Cure, No !! Control , Yes.. Losing weight plays a big part in controlling glucose levels..Also daily exercise is as important as diet.. You mom is controlling her glucose levels because of what she eats and how much. due to surgery. There are 3 key steps to controlling glucose levels : 1) EXERCISE- Walking is fine but Nordic Walking is Great. Exercise also lowers Glucose levels , lowers Cholesterol and lowers Blood Pressure. Google it.Exercise is Non-Negotiable !!!Thats why it is Number 1 on the list. 2) Knowledge- http://www.phlaunt.com/diabetes/index.ph%E2%80%A6 This is a great site for info 3)Diet- A low carb diet is in order. I can't count carbs so I use Mendosa's Glycemic Index Diet. Great for the whole family. http://www.mendosa.com/gilists.htm Take care Ben Trolled

Weight is only one out of many possible factors in both diabetes and heart issues. Reducing weight may help but it does not mean a cure for either. With diabetes, excess weight makes insulin resistance more likely but the problem could still be insulin production as per the A3243G gene in the mitochondria. It could be because the insulin doesn't work right. Or it could be as you've presumed an inflammation of the pancreas ( which would of course not be affected by weight ). Chances are your mom had insulin resistance as a problem and pumping blood through all that excess weight as a heart problem so when the bariatric surgery changed her weight, no more insulin resistance and no more excess fat to pump blood through. Note Bariatric surgery also causes the majority of the food to pass through undigested which of course means less glucose to deal with and less fats to deal with ( it also causes the bathroom to stink to high heaven ). That hardly means losing weight is a cure for diabetes, just that it helped her.

I'm not sure where you are getting your information that these conditions are caused by inflammation. Inflammation of what? High cholesterol clogs arteries, it does not cause inflammation. Doctors do not entirely understand why bariatric surgery causes such a dramatic reduction in blood sugar in patients with type 2 diabetes.
