What's the best wireless insulin pump?

I am having some serious insulin pump issues for the past month or so......what could be the problem?

  • Type 1, 16 years old, and have an insulin pump. Basically, over the past month or so, I am averaging a blood sugar of over 200, something that obviously isn't good and something that usually doesn't happen with me. Often, I am changing my pump site a whole lot because in some way, I am not getting the insulin. Sometimes it works, yes, but more and more frequently, something has happened where I am not getting insulin or something. Here's one thing I cannot strress enough. When I put the needle in, it has been going in fine. I am positive I am not putting the site in bad so many times.......they have been good site changes. I realize there was a recall but I checked and it did not affect me. I really want this fixed because it's ruining my summer. I am high a lot of the time and that prevents me from doing fun things and makes me stressed obviously. And when I am high, I can't eat foods with carbs much.......so I am hungry and eating cheese, eggs, and low carb foods much more. I am eating carbs though, don't worry. Case and point, I am going high more because my pump is not getting me insulin more frequently. What could be the problem????? ***************By the way, the pump does work some of the time, but hasn't worked a lot more times than usual.**********

  • Answer:

GO TO YOUR DOCTOR! Your pump should be working 100% of the time and no less. lf there is a problem with your pump the manufacturer will replace it. Stop trying to figure it out on your own and get some professional guidance.

I'm no expert on insulin pumps, but I'm pretty sure this is an issue that needs to go to your doctor/endocrinologist. It might be that your pump is simply defective and replacing it will do the trick, but, if it doesn't, perhaps there's a problem with your dosage levels or the dosage you're receiving.

It's not your site thats the issue, its your basal and ratios. Speak to your doctor or endo about adjusting these.

im 18,I used to pump, but had to quit because i was allergic to the plastic used for the infusion sites. A couple things you should think about are: -maybe you've become resistant to the type of insulin your using, to my knowledge, there are 4 types of fast acting insulin, and i assume you are using one of the following, novalin, novolog, humalin, humalog. they all basically work the same, but there are minute differences in the absorbtion rates. you should ask about changing your presciption to a different fast acting insulin. - since you have been changing sites so much, theres a chance you could have built up scar tissue under the skin. it may be beneficial to try a site you never use, your back, legs arms, wherever you dont normally use. - i think there may be an issue with your actually pump. call the company, most are very coorperative and will have a replacement out ASAP. good luck!!
