What caused my monitor to suddenly get darker?

Fellow diabetics, what problems, if any have your glucose monitor caused trying 2 get through airport security?

  • Answer:

We travel all the time - both in the US and internationally. We bring all our supplies in a carry on - including insulin (in a soft cooler if it is for a long trip), syringes, pump supplies, test strips, lancets, etc. And we have never had a problem anywhere except with drinks (we always have a couple juice boxes and 90% of the time it is fine, while 10 % it isn't - it depends on the country and the agent). We have a letter from our hospital that makes clear that we need to carry all the items with us. And, we never let them xray the CGM - we always ask for a hand check. We have been told that xraying the GCM is untested and may cause problems. Of course, a couple of times we have forgotten to take it out of our bag, and it still seems to work fine. We have also been told that the CHMs do NOT need to be turned off on the plane at any time - they do not interfere with airplane navigation. It is actually east to travel and most people at airport security are very understanding - we just need to allow 10 to 15 extra minutes to answer their questions and wait for them to hand check the CGM.

Not sure as I don't fly! But I do know you cannot carry any type of electronic item into a Federal Courthouse! This includes your glucometers. I was required to put mine along with my insulin pen back into the truck in order to enter. They baked and I lost the insulin and had to get another glucometer and test strips. Flying put as much of your supplies as you can in a gallon ziplock bag. Do not put it in luggage. It does not count as "baggage". You can then put it in your purse or carry on. Also in this bag include your snacks as you cannot depend on flights to be on time or the airline to have anything for you to snack on in emergency.

My glucose monitor has never caused problems for me (although I imagine syringes would). I always bring a letter from the doctor with me when I travel so they know what it is and what it's for and allow me to bring them on the plane.

Call your airport TSA and see what the jerks allow.

Just tell them about this machine and get clearance. I think it causes no hazard.
