How long does it take for poison ivy to go away?

UGH! poison ivy? how long will it take for it to go away?

  • I have poison ivy all over my feet and ankles and its spreading all over my chest. I can pretty much feel it forming under my skin EVERYWHERE! I can't sleep and it's so horrible. And i'm supposed to go camping next tuesday!...Yesterday I went to the doctor and i was prescribed Prednisone. I'm on it 3 times a day for 3 days. I've been putting Calamine on it, but it hasn't worked because I have found myself itching the poison ivy in my sleep and just making it spread more. Will the Prednisone make it go away in the 3 day? I haven't noticed anything, but I've only took 2 pills so far...?

    Sounds odd but go to the grocery store to the laundry soap section. Buy a box of Twenty Mule Team laundry additive. It has borax that helps to soothe the skin and dry up the outbreaks of poison ivy /oak. It will help with the itching also, it works wonders. Bathe in it 3 times a day or as needed. Two cups for a tub full of water. Told a neighbor about it this spring when their 3 year old had been given predisone also for poison oak, with no relief at all. The borax helped and he was clear after 4 days.

poison ivy actually does not spread... it is just surfacing in places at different times. THe oil form the poison ivy plant is already on your skin and ready to make blisters. It doesnt spread. Keep taking your medication and try to put 4x4 gauze pads all ofer your itchy spots and tape them down with medical tape. That way you wont be able to scrath them when you are sleeping. Be very careful to stay out of the sun when you are on this medication. You can get very sick...almost flu like. Try going to a public pool or to the YMCA to swim. The chlorine will do wonders on it!!! Just stay out of the sun, keep taking you meds and give it time...you will be fine. No one has died from poison ivy.
