How can I be allergic to one dog but not another?

Can I be allergic to one dog, but not another?

  • I've had one dog for a couple years, now. I'm not sure what breed she is, she's a mix of a few breeds, I do believe. I've never had any problems with her. But we recently got a new dog. She's something along the lines of a golden retriever or boxer mix... And ever since we got her, I've been getting itchy red spots, not really bumpy.... I went to my grandpas house for a week, and the spots were gone while I was there... When I came back home, the spots reappeared... Could I be allergic to the new dog, but not the other one?

  • Answer:

you're allergic to all dogs, not just one...the reason you're getting hives is because not all dogs have the same kind of coat or skin. retrievers are water dogs so their skin produces more oils. after you've been in contact with the new dog wash whatever parts of your body it touched and you should be fine. also, the more you bathe your dog the less it will be a problem (less oils present means smaller chance of allergic reaction).

Yes because certain dogs produce more dander or shed more then other curly hair/fur dogs are better if you have allergies long haired or short haired dogs tend to shed more so yes you can be allergic to one and not other Hope this helped
