Am I allergic to my dog?

Can I adopt a dog even though I'm allergic to them (specific details inside)?

• I know, such a stupid question, but specific details.... Alright, I'm a 19 year old Chicano (Mexican-American) living in the city of Hollis in Queens, NYC. My uncle used to live with us with his PitBull (he was a mean dog at first but then got settled down for some reason that we don't even know) from 1999-2007 (the year when his PitBull passed away). I was never allergic to the dog but then around 2008 allergic reactions were kicking in when I would visit my cousin up in The Bronx (he owns a Holland Sheperd & Pitbull Terrior) (they both playful anyway since my cousin got the Holland Sheper first then the PitBull Terrior making it used to being playful). I'm considering adopting a PitBull for myself since I loved being around my uncle's PitBull, can I still adopt a dog even if I'm allergic to my cousin's dogs' breed? P.S: I want honest & mature answers, nothing childish or sarcastic (e.g: "oh. why you adopting a dog if you're allergic to them?"; "you're so stupid", etc.). Thank You!   well i have allergy's too but ask your doctor what exactly your allergic to because i was allergic to their saliva and i got a dog all i did was wash my hands after petting her so yeah if you have allergys to their fur get a dog that does not shed if you have allergys to their saliva then wash your hands and youll be fine Good luck and hope you get a dog =]
