What is the best over-the-counter medication for cat allergy sufferers?

• I have an awesome cat - despite over a decade of owning her, my allergies to her have increased over time. I get really stuffy, congested, sneeze a lot, and my eyes get red or water a bit. However, she's the best pet in the world and I have no intention to ever get rid of her. What is the best pill / medication I can take for this? I don't mind if it's daily, as long as it's a safe medication with few if any side effects. Hoping people with personal experience can tell me what worked for them and any tips/suggestions.   Instead of you taking a pill, you should address the problem at the source. Your cat produces a protein (Fel d1) that your body does not correctly identify as harmless. As a result, you have a specific IgE for that protein and every time you are exposed it causes your mast cells to get all excited and that is why your body reacts the way it does. Its not kitties fault, it is your body's fault. This protein is in the saliva and urine of your cat. As she grooms herself or empties her bladder, bits of this protein stick to her skin and fur. Then it dries up and flakes off. It is very small and becomes easily airborne so that you can inhale it and it can make you sick. To stop the reaction, you stop the protein. That doesn't mean you take a pill every day. It does mean that once a week you wipe kitty down with a denaturing agent and coat conditioner that will take care of the protein. Allerpet/C has been around for years and works well. Also, about once a month, you should spray down the fabric areas where the cat hangs out with a denaturing agent like ADS or ADMS. Lots of people live with allergies and pet allergies. You can do it too.
