What's the fundamental difference between nuclear reactions and chemical reactions?

Reactions??!!! help please :(?

  • ok so since october 14th of this year ive been getting reactions on my face. i have recently started recording what i eat, and also got my blood drawn. which they said i was allergic to nothing. so ive been thinking it was popcorn i called the company and they said nothing has changed ( and yes i know u can grow into allergies). so today my dad put the corn in the microwave to heat it up for dinner and after dinner the bowl with the corn was sitting right in front of me. i started to get all itchy like how i get when popcorn is in the air, so im starting to think maybe its corn. my dad says when u put the corn in the microwave the chemicals change so can that be whats causing the reactions? should i get another blood test on all the stuff that popcorn and corn have in it?? my mom wont believe that im possibly allergic to "corn" and frankly its getting me ticked off. so if you can help m in any way thanks! ps my reactions are around my eyebrows, and a lot under my eyes: red buffy, and itchy then they turn to dead skin which is what i have at the moment. so yea thanks!

  • Answer:

Was the blood test a RAST test? That is not usually performed for food allergies, is why I ask. Food allergy is generally done with a skin challenge test. Also, it is very important that you refrain from taking any antihistamines for about 10 days or so before you have any allergy test. If you had been having reactions and taking something for them before the test....then you messed up the test results without realizing it. If you are reacting to microwave popcorn, it could be any one of the many chemicals they put in that stuff....it really is almost fake food. Try popping it the old fashioned way (heavy pan, a little oil and the corn) and see if you react...at least you will get a good bowl of popcorn out of the test :o) Seriously, if you don't want to go through the time and expense of proper food allergy testing, you can do it yourself with an elimination diet. Elimination diets require a large amount of discipline to follow but are effective in identifying problem foods. I'll give you a link to read.
