As a weightlifter, how can I reduce or eliminate arm soreness caused by allergy shots?
-
I'm a frequent weightlifter and about 6 weeks into a once-a-week allergy shot regimen. About two weeks ago, one of my arms was a bit sore after the shots. I tried a few exercises in the gym that day but called it quits because of soreness. I told my allergy shot-giver and she said it could be the contents of the shot (allergens) causing soreness. I doubt it's caused by the needle puncturing my arm because it never caused soreness before and I usually can barely feel the needle. We tried icing the sore arm at the allergy office and it worked while there, but was still sore the next day. I have lifted weights despite arm soreness but it isn't pleasant and feels like it affects my strength. Does anyone have/had this problem and figured out a way to solve it? I need both weightlifting and allergy shots for wellbeing.

Answer:
This type of shot is given Subqutaneously..which is at a 40 degree angle. I am thinking you are getting them in the back of the arms?? right? I personally do them there too, but you can have them done in the fat pad of your belly. Less nerve endings there. ask them

will she give you the shot in the thighs or the buttocks??? That would relieve the arm soreness. Sometimes the repetition in the same places puts a severe strain on the muscle. Giving the shot in the arm all the time gives her just a few inches to inject in. Most meds toughen the area where they are injected. As a diabetic I was warned to rotate the injections of insulin all over the fatty parts of the bod or I would have reactions and non-reactions.

You might try a compression shirt (Under Armor, etc). I know that they can help greatly with overall muscle soreness. Maybe they would help.

You should really reconsider having the allergy shots all together. Shots have so many harmful ingredients in them anyway such as formaldahyde, aluminum and mercury which are all terrible for your health. You should see a holistic health care practitioner for alternative allergy treatment. There are some wonderful natural products available such as natural hydrocortizone derived from plants...the pain you are having is an adverse reaction to the vaccine and its contents not the needle itself.
