Not only can cough syrup make you high, it can also make you DEAD. Your child risked alcohol poisoning and also could have just as easily died of acetaminophen overdose. Most cough syrups contain other ingredients such as acetaminophen, suppressants, expectorants, etc. Unless you can identify every ingredient listed on the bottle and know the potential reaction to each one, I would pass on getting high if I were you. You see, no parent in their right mind is going to buy cough syrup for their child simply because the child wanted some. Nor would that parent allow the child to carry it to the bedroom to dose themselves as they please. Therefore, I think you are the child looking for that first high. Think again and be very careful. Yes it can, if it has dextrose metamorphine. It will also make you really sick for awhile followed by a very odd type of hallucination. Most people try it once and never do it again because they realize it is really not worth the effort. One time shouldn't have any deleterious effects, but continued use could start to damage the liver and stomach as it is with taking too much of any medication.
