Is there any cure for Wheat Allergy ( Celiac Disease)?
-
My wife has been diagnosed to be suffering from Celiac Disease ( Allergic to Wheat), so she can't take Wheat and its derivative products..i.e she can't have breads, chocolates, cream..the list is endless. She is on Gluten free diet for 1 1/2 years now. I just wanted to check if there is any cure available for such disease or will she be on Gluten free diet for the rest of her life?

The only cure available right now is to follow the diet strictly. It also sounds to me like her diet is way off base for this disease. Wheat is not the only grain that contains gluten - barley and rye do as well. If she wants to be symptom free, she should also avoid oats, unless they specifically say they are purified, as they are often processed along with wheat, barley, and rye products. Processing them in the same plant can lead to cross-contamination (gluten being found in products that normally wouldn't have gluten in them). She needs to look specifically for food labeled gluten free, or read up on what is naturally gluten free (fruits, veggies, meat, etc.). Contrary to what you've written, chocolate and cream are gluten free, as is most other dairy (I have yet to run across any dairy that wasn't). If she is serious about being completely gluten free, you HAVE to read the ingredients list. The government allows companies to advertise as gluten free even if it is processed in a plant with gluten or actually contains small amounts of gluten. I highly recommend cooking at home as much as possible, as there are very few restaurants that offer gluten free options. It is a pretty fickle diet to follow, but unfortunately it's the only fix for now. They are, however, in the process of developing a medication for other auto-immune diseases (specifically rheumatoid arthritis) that could prove helpful for those that suffer with Celiac as well: http://www.webmd.com/digestive-disorders/celiac-disease/news/20110208/new-treatment-for-celiac-disease Until something comes of this, the diet is all we've got. Sorry.

There are no typical signs and symptoms of celiac disease. Most people with the disease have general complaints, such as: Intermittent diarrhea Abdominal pain Bloating Sometimes people with celiac disease may have no gastrointestinal symptoms at all. Celiac disease symptoms can also mimic those of other conditions, such as irritable bowel syndrome, gastric ulcers, Crohn's disease, parasite infections and anemia. Celiac disease may also present itself in less obvious ways, including: Irritability or depression Anemia Stomach upset Joint pain Muscle cramps Skin rash Mouth sores Dental and bone disorders (such as osteoporosis) Tingling in the legs and feet (neuropathy) Some indications of malabsorption of nutrients that may result from celiac disease include: Weight loss Diarrhea Abdominal cramps, gas and bloating General weakness and fatigue Foul-smelling or grayish stools that may be fatty or oily Stunted growth (in children) Osteoporosis ======================================… U may cross check if wheat powder - be it refined or unrefined, or raw with bran or without, with gluten or without with the aid of acupressure techniques. The cure lies in identifying and avoiding. Prevention and cure lie in banning from Ur diet. U can select ur own foods, whether suitable to u or not with the aid of acupressure techniques. • First stand straight, keep ur left hand fist closed on the heart, outstretch ur right hand parallel to the ground. Ask some one to pull down ur right hand as much as possible. Now, keep the eatable in ur left hand palm and close the left fist and keep it on ur heart and then outstretch ur right hand parallel to the ground.Ask some one to pull down ur right hand. now, if this eatable is beneficial to ur body, resistance power shall increase. If it is harmful ur resistance power shall decrease/reduce and ur right hand shall come down. in case of a drink, u can keep it in a metal utensil, like copper and do so as explained above. In this fashion, u can identify the foods which are suitable or not to ur body; not withstanding the disease conditions].
