Is it possible to be allergic to mosquito bites?
-
I was outside for more no more than 10 minutes and got FOURTEEN mosquito bites. Ridiculous I know! Well, whenever I get mosquito bites they get really big and hurt and itch really bad. They have never gotten this big before. The last two or three times I got them they have gotten this big. So, my question is: Is it possible to be allergic to mosquito bites? If so, can I take anything for it? I have already put Calohist Clear (CVS Pharmacy brand) on it, which basically numbs the area, and it has seemed to work for now.

Answer:
The swelling and biting caused by a mosquito bite IS an allergic reaction. We are all allergic to them! :P

yes...my daughter is allergic. it's actually an allergy to the saliva and its' components. try using benadryl gel on the bites. doesn't solve the problem, but makes it a little more comfortable!

My brother is allergic to mosquito bites... (and gnat bites supposedly??) When he gets one it will start out like a tiny hive... then throughout the day or a few hours it will become this huge lump and it's very sensitive! Hmm the benedryl suggestions.. never thought of that for him. I suppose try that

well it's possible since mosquitoes excrete some of their saliva on your wound and a person can develop allergies at any point in their life...if it is that bad I suggest taking some anti-inflammatory medication..any typical over-the-counter allergy medication will do.

The swelling is due to saliva left over from the mosquito (which is actually an anti-coagulant) and our bodies histamine response.

Yes but its usually inherited. I once got a virius from a mosquito bite when I was 12.

It is possible. My little sister is allergic to them. Take Benedryl. It really helps with the itching and the swelling. Take care! Also NO scratching! It leads to ugly scars!

They're basically tiny wounds... so the more you get- I imagine- the longer they take to heal

My cousin used to be allergic to them. Just one bite would make her very sick and vomit.
