Am I allergic to deodorant?

Allergic reaction from deodorant? help?

  • so, i have this huge rash under my left armpit, and I think its from my deodorant. like an allergic reaction. this has happened before and I stupidly used the same deodorant again. I was just wondering how do I get rid of it?

  • Answer:

Benadryl works best for my rashes. I am extremely sensitive, all deodorants (even Dove unscented) made me itch and actually gave me BO instead of preventing it. The problem is the way deodorants work is they clog your pores. I tried something new and I love it! Since you are having problems I'd recommend trying one of those salt crystal deodorants. I bought mine for under $5 and it will last me years! You can find them at any natural or health food store and they are just mineral salt but they really work excellent. I am not having any itching at all since using it, and I don't have that chalky coating on my underarms that all deodorants leave behind. I am not a heavy sweater, but my mother is and I bought her one and she loves it too, she says it really keeps her dry. Thought this might help.

Wash and dry the area. Use this deodorant no longer. If you have used others before that didn't result in rash that's the one to use. However, until the rash clears up do not use anything. After washing and drying try some hydrocortison over the counter cream, or just some regular corn starch is best to keep the area clean and dry. Once the rash has cleared then you can use a deodorant you know is ok for you.

Wash the deoderant off of the area. Go to the pharmacy and buy some kind of cream or lotion and apply it, and take Benadryl or something similar. The rash might not go away for a while. Until it does, you shouldn't put too much deoderant on (I know it sounds gross but its true) so another reaction doesn't happen. Also, don't use that deoderant anymore! If it doesn't go away after like two days, talk to your doctor or a pharmacist.

Take an over the counter Benedryl and you can also put a topical hydrocortisone cream on under your arms. It will take some time for it to go away. Try not to use any other chemicals (deoderant or soap) under your arm until it gets better. (I know this will be hard). If you do need to use a soap, try one that is detergent free such as Caress or Dove.
