Am I allergic to cats?

If I'm allergic to cats & dogs, will I also be allergic to other animals?

  • Hi everyone. Regarding my question yesterday about being allergic to cats, dogs & housemites after being tested when I had an allergic reaction. I have decided to rehome my two cats, it's breaking my heart & I'm almost in tears but my two baby kitties are going to live with my Mum-in-law. I am an animal lover & would like to know If I would also be allergic to Rabbits, guinea pigs or hamsters? Is there a pet I could keep in the house that I would not be allergic too?

Don't laugh at this suggestion, but have you thought about a duck? I very close friend of mine is highly allergic to most animals. As a kid growing up he could never have a pet besides a goldfish (some pet huh?). As an adult, he moved to an area that has a large muscovy duck population. He befriended the flock and now does duck rescues. He has absolutely no allergy to the ducks! Between rescues and rehabilitations, he usually has more than just a few ducks at any time and no allergy. So, think about a duck. Don't think about cockatiels or cockatoos, because they have their own set of allergy causing problems. As an animal lover, you've got lots of love to give, it will just be a matter of finding the right animal. Good Luck

Sweetheart, I am so sorry you have to suffer,but I am glad you're Mum, in law will have them, so you will know they are safe, and you can visit them,,,,,I know you are a animal lover, but please don't get any other animals, they all have dander, and with all the problems you have, you have to put your health first.........Did you ever think about a beautiful aquarium

Not necessarily. My daughter is allergic to both cats and dogs, but not horses or rabbits. To know for sure, you'd have to be tested for the particular animal you are wondering about. I'll bet you're not allergic to keeping a goldfish, though!

I think that you are likely allergic to any fured animal. If you want to keep a pet you must consult your local doctor so he can prescribe an anti-allergic shot.

yeah im allergic to cats and dogs, and then i began to notice my allergy to other animals, like rabbits and hamsters, but their just smaller, im also allergic to featehred animals, so cannot have pillows with fetahers, but all people are different
