How can I get rid of a stuffy nose fast?

How can I get rid of a stuffy nose immediately?

  • For the past month, I've been having trouble breathing through my nose. I've tried Benadryl, Claritin, Mucinex, pretty much everything I have available, and nothings working:P Its to the point where I can't even sleep because I cant breathe. I'm getting annoyed with it because I've taken 5-7 pills a day for it and it has no effect. I've blown my nose so much that my nose is too dry and I still can't breathe... If someone has an idea of how I can get rid of this right now, please help me. I've been trying to get to sleep for 3 hours now and I just can't.

  • Answer:

your gonna think this is weird, but boil potato and breath in the steam from it. Hold a towel around the pot so that you can keep the steam in an enclosed area... it's easier to breath

You need to see your doctor to see why you're having breathing problems. You may have allergies that are causing your problems. Your symptoms sound like mine, & I was diagnosed with Sinusitis, many years ago. For years, I took Sudafed Sinus (oval pinkish tablet as shown on the box) Later on, I had to stop taking them, because they were elevating my blood pressure. When I was able to take them, they worked great. Here are some suggestions to try & hopefully, one or more will help you breathe. Sleep with two pillows, so you won't be lying flat. Two pillows will allow you to breathe easier. Use a saline nasal spray as it will moisturize your nasal passages. Follow directions on the box. I use Afrin Saline Nose Spray. Buy a Vick's Inhaler that is small & you can carry it with you. Use it at bedtime too. Don't buy a generic inhaler, because they don't work as well as the Vick's Inhaler. (it looks like a tube of lipstick) Keep your bedtime as dust free as possible. Dust interferes with your ability to breathe. STOP taking all of the over the counter medication! Ask your doctor for a prescription of something that is safe to use. Five to seven pills daily, is NOT smart & you could overmedicate yourself. Not good on your heart. Please see your doctor as soon as possible. Once he can find the cause of your breathing problems, he can give you something that will make you breathe easier. If he sends you to an Allergist, make sure you go. If you live in a region where your winters are really cold, buy a small humidifier for your bedroom. It will fill your room with moisture so you can breathe easier. Worked for me. It has to be a humidifier or even a Cool Mist vaporizer. ( the box will say Cool Mist) Hot mist will fill your room with bacteria, & your lungs don't need that.

Get a bottle of nasal spray that contains phenylephrine HCL - normal dilution is 1%. Use it in each nostril, and make sure it gets into the sinuses, because that's where the problem lies. The sinus linings swell when they come into contact with something that irritates them, and that means air can't travel through them - not fun. Do NOT get a 12-hour spray; they do very little for most people, and don't generally work immediately. Probably the most common brand of "fast-acting" spray is 4-Way; you can also get generic "look-alikes" at drugstores like Walgreens, Rite-Aid, and so on. If you commonly have problems with allergies this time of year, talk to your doctor about getting a preventive nasal spray containing fluticasone (Flonase is the brand name). It's a locally-acting steroid, and it works WONDERS for a lot of people with nasal allergies, including me. Since I started using it, I have MANY fewer sinus infections, and I can BREATHE at night - so I can PERSONALLY recommend this one. If you can't go to the doctor immediately, get your mom to get a package of Sudafed (or the generic) for you to take when you're stuffy. It won't make you drowsy, and can help keep your sinuses open when your allergies are bugging you.
