How can I get rid of itchy, burning eyes?

How do I get rid of my constantly itchy, burning eyes?

  • I have allergies to dust mites, environmental molds, and some ragweeds and pollens. The symptoms are mostly in my eyes; they usually itch and burn. But lately my eyes have gotten a lot worse. They are so itchy I can hardly stand it, and they just feel dry and irritated. I take a non-drowsy allergy medicine like Claritin, but it doesn't seem to help a lot. I also use allergy eye drops, and they do help some, but they wear off quickly and I end up using them more than it says to on the bottle. What else can I do to relieve my itchy, irritated eyes?

  • Answer:

I too had allergies, so I understand. Use a cool towel or washcloth over your eyes. Do not rub your eyes. Go back to your doctor and see about a prescription for some eye drops with maybe steroids. The white part of my eyes would swell up, itch and feel that sand was in them. The cool cloth helped more than anything.
