Can people be allergic to guinea pigs?

  • and not hamsters? and also can you be allergic to guinea pigs if they touch you? i used to own a hamster and it was fine and i kept a guniea pig in my room for a while and i was fine but last night i held my friends guniea pig for little over a half an hour and i broke out in a rash on my arm. i started sneezing and my eyes wre burning and watery. Could it be something in the cage im allergic to? speific bedding the timothy hay?

    If you've had a hamster & guinea pig before and had no problem, then there could be 2 causes. 1 You could be allergic to the bedding 2 You could now be allergic to the dander from the guinea pig As you get older, you're immune system changes. So things that didn't bother you, could be bothering you now.

You can be allergic to just about anything. You were fine before, but not now. Different pig, different results. You could be allergic to your FRIENDS guinea pig, but not yours. You could be allergic to the bedding. LEAVE YOUR FRIENDS GUINEA PIG ALONE. if your rash and sneezing goes away, then it is THAt pig that you are allergic to.
