Can you suddenly develop a Mosquito Bite Allergy?
-
I am allergic to many thing cigarette smoke, Wheat, Yogurt, trees, grass, weeds, mold, and alot more i also have cross reactions and can't eat any green vegetables or fruit unless it is fruit juice from concentrate and then only one glass, as well as most other vegetables unless they are well cooked and in moderate amounts. I have never had an odd reaction to mosquito bites just the normal itchy bump until 3 years ago. I got to same itchy bump but they grow about as big around as a golf ball though they don't become raised off the skin any more than normal. The swelling goes down but leaves a red mark that fades to pink after about a week then keeps fading for about two months and leaves a small scar you wouldn't notice unless you knew where it was and the scar fades completely after about 7 months. Is it possible to develop an allergy after years of not having one. I know it is possible to develop an immunity since i was once allergic to cats and dogs but got over that. It might also help with knowing about my plant allergies i have, since a few years ago when i was outside alot i didn't have as strong a reaction now i just touch a tree or plant and my hands get red and itchy while as a child i could climb trees and play in grass without a problem.

Answer:
Speaking as someone with a similarly long list of allergies, it is quite common for allergies to get more or less severe over time. Most people are allergic to mosquito bites to some extent (thus those itchy bumps most people get) and a change in your bodies reaction to their poison can certainly happen especially when your body undergoes changes such as: puberty, changes in diet, major stress, etc. During a major point of stress a few years ago I found myself allergic to many more things than had in the past and some allergies I already had were worse, since things have worked themselves out I have much less problems. You would be wise to speak to a doctor if you re experiencing allergic reactions lasting months and especially if they are golf ball sized, just to be on the safe side.

It is possible to become more sensitive to mosquito bites. I think you need to go to an allergist and be treated for your allergies. Allergy desensitization shots will help tremendously with your allergies to mold, trees, grass, pollen and even raw fruits and vegetables. I used to be allergic to nearly all raw fruits and vegetables. Even getting watermelon juice on my skin made me break out in a rash. I went to an allergist and had desensitization shots for my pollen allergies. After being on the shots for five years, my allergy to raw fruits and vegetables went away. Now I can actually eat salad and even watermelon.

I'm not sure how closely this would be related, but I know that it's possible to become allergic to bee stings, even if you've never shown any allergic reactions before. In fact, the more stings, the more likely you are to develop an allergy. I don't know that the same processes are involved in a mosquito bite, but they may be.

Firstly, you are NOT allergic to cigarette smoke, nobody is. There are no "allergens" in it, so that is impossible- you can merely be "sensitive" to it. As for mosquito bites, everyone has an occasional allergic-type reaction from them. It seems that some mosquitos have more of the allergen in their saliva than others, and sometimes the bite area just gets really big & swollen, yet the next bite doesn't. You CAN develop an allergy after many years- I took penecillin many times over my life, but at age 38 I developed a severe allergy to it.
