What is a lymph node in a lung?

Can allergies cause lymph nodes to swell? Please help!?

  • I am 20 and I have really bad all year round indoor and outdoor allergies that cause me to break out in hives, plus I am an asthmatic. Had allergies since I was born. Anyway I am practically allergic to everything, dust, pollen, mold, grass, the environment and other certain types of foods. Last year december 2010 early in the month. I noticed A swollen lymph node on the left side of my neck( Cervical or super-cervical node). Sometimes it would feel big and shapely and other times it would feel flat like its going away and less stiff. Also in 2009 I was breaking out into chronic hives and was put on Xyzal for 2 years which helped my allergies 100%. I was wondering if allergies could cause someone's lymph node to swell. Cause I went to my doctor on monday and when I let him feel the swollen node in my neck he seemed a bit concerned and sent me for a chest X-ray(to make sure its not lung cancer or have an infection in my lungs), took a blood test to make sure its not an infection or Leukemia, and put me on antibiotics to clear up any possible infections and gave me a nasal spray to clear up my sinuses. He wanted me to come back in 2 weeks to check if my lymph node went down and if not will send me to an Ear nose and throat doctor to get a biopsy. I don't know what to think at this point cause I'm awaiting my results and going through extreme anxiety. Plus it doesn't help that on the day I went to the doctor this monday I came down with a sore throat and runny nose and now today I am blowing up mucus and have a small cough. What could be wrong with me? Usually around this time of the year I ALWAYS get sick. During the transition of Winter into Spring for some reason. Could there be a connection? I don't want to have th "C" word. I'm sooo scared. My doctor didn't seem like he wanted to answer to many questions like he was holding something back, but get wanted to have the results in front of him first, but for some reason something about his demeanor seemed a concerned about the lump, and seemed like he wanted to go about this delicately. He did ask me questions on my allergies and he seemed like he wanted to gamble more on the fact I might have an infection cause he asked me to come back in 2 weeks and to make sure I get the chest X-ray in the mean time.
