Help and Advice Please, Sore Throat or something else?
-
Ok, I've had throat problems for about 3 weeks now. It started of 3 weeks ago with getting a sensation of something stuck in my throat, just below the adams apple. That lasted the best part of a week, then went away. Then the following week i got alot of burning sensation where the sensation of the something stuck was (just below adams apple). Then later in the week my throat became sore, and that lasted about 3 or 4 days. Now the sensation of something stuck in my throat has come back this week, and been on and off, not persistant. And my throat has felt a tad sore, but not much. At the moment it feels like warm in my throat, a bit like a burning sensation but not quite. I've also had the burning sensation in my ears, especialy when i wake up in the morning it effects the most. I also had a lot of Phlegm (flem) in my throat and had to constantly clear it. But thats pretty much cleared up now. I've also had body aches but i'm not sure this is connected. I have been to the doctors and he just said it's a viral thing, and that the sensation of something stuck in my throat was just my throat muscles tightening. But i'm not sure. I've had no nausea or sickness, no cough or major cold, just a bit of phlegm. I haven't coughed up blood or anything either. I'm planning on going back to the doctor soon I just wan't your opinion on it on what you think it might be. It's just this throat saga is really annoying me now and i've had enough.

Answer:
Allergy season is here. First it's tree pollen, then grasses and then pollen again. It causes the sinuses to drain which causes a sore throat just as you described. Also, it drains into the chest (at night) and you have to clear your lungs by coughing it up. If you do not get the phlegm out, it stays in your lungs and can create a bacterial infection which results in a visit to your doctor for antibiotics. It also drains into the ears causing ear infections. Most allergy medicine has benedryl as it's main ingredient. Ask a pharmacist what he recommends. Pseudafed is for fluid in the inner ear. Both are over the counter medications. Zycam is a homeopathic remedy that cuts cold symptoms (runny nose) down to about 3-4 days. You can get it at most drugstores. The pretreated Q-tips are good for swabbing the inside of the nose. Or, you can put Neosporin in your nose to catch the pollen as you breath it in. Rub some Vaseline around your nose. Consider wearing a dust and pollen face mask, like the surgeons wear. See your doctor if you run a fever and/or develop severe cough. Good luck! remember to vote
