Have you had allergy shots?

Can buying a cat a year into allergy shots cause you to have to begin she shot series over?

  • Have a quesiton for you.. My neighbor is 13 and is a year into her allergy shots...she had a middle grade allergy to cats and was allergic to a ton of crap. There are many different components in her shot and she goes once a week. She should go into maintance in may which will last a year. The family owns no pets and they were very excited about getting a cat. The mom asked the allergy dr and he told her absolutely not that it could very well send them back to square one on the shots and they would have to start over. Ok so what the dr said goes against everything I have experienced with my mother taking allergy shots while owning cats and everything I find online. Anyone know if what the dr says is true...if not anyone know a RELIABLE place I can find this info so I can finally get this family the pet they are wanting. The fish just isn't doing it anymore. Thank you.

  • Answer:

the reason you cant get a cat a year into the shots is because shes barely immune to the cats and whatever else she is allergic to. the shots aren't miracles and don't work over night. The shots are over with, in five to seven years but that doesn't mean she'll get immediate results they take awhile if you get a cat when her body isn't immune to it, then well you will be back to square one. dont doubt the doctor on these situations. i get the shots and have similar problems.
