Why is my eye swollen?

My eye is swollen and I'm not sure why?

  • Last night I my eye was hurting and I thought I must have bumped it or something. However when I woke up my bottom eyelid was swollen. I went and saw a pharmacist. She said that as its not red (the actual eye) and there is no pus it's not conjunctivitis. She said it was probably either an allergic reaction or a sty. She told me to bathe it in warm water with salt. Anyway, I did that and its been a few hours and now its MORE swollen. It's swollen to the point that where the eye sits and normally the skin goes in an then out when it reaches the bone for the bottom of the eye, it now just goes it. It hurts when I blink and its so swollen it's affecting my sight. The eye itself is clear. Is this normal for an allergic reaction? Or should I go and see another pharmacist?

  • Answer:

No! You should go see a doctor! Don't fool around with your eyesight. A pharmacist is not the appropriate person to diagnose your problem. He might guess at it, but you need to see your M.D.

Sounds like pink eye or a sty and you need to see a doctor for that because the over the counter medications have toxic ingredients in them. If it is a sty, then the warm compress and antibiotics are what is needed. If it is pink eye then you will still need antibiotics for the infection.
