How to make soy beans milk?

How is that I can eat soybeans but I vomit when I drink soy milk?

  • Earlier this year, I decided to try and make the transition from skim milk to soy milk and incorporate other soy products into my diet. But I noticed that I started to feel awful after drinking an Odwalla Super Protein shake (diarrhea, stomach cramps, vomiting), but I contribute that to something else (like the flu, etc.) Then one night I was drinking a class of soy milk and my throat became tight. It was almost impossible to speak and my breathing was severely compromised. I took an anti-histamine (because that was the only thing I thought might help) and that seemed to calm it down a little bit. All of this leads me to believe that I am indeed allergic to soy BUT I can eat soy beans (i.e., edamame) without any problem. Anyone else experience this? And what have you found you can eat? thanks!

  • Answer:

it doesnt make sense= the trouble with self diagnosing allergies is that its very easy to get it WRONG. What else is in the super protein shake (im sure its not just soy milk??) If you are having serious allergic reactions as you describe then you need to be assessed and managed by a qualified allergist or immunologist. Dont restrict yourself unnecessarily-you may not actually be allergic to soy but rather something else in the drink-best to get it formally checked out. good luck caz
