Why are peanut allergies so common now?

Why don't they just do this to cure peanut allergies?

  • Me and my friend were thinking about peanut allergies. Why don't doctors just inject a tiny tiny tiny amount of peanut dust into a person, and the next week a little bit more, then more, then more until they build up an immunity to it? I mean they do that with pollen allergies why not peanut allergies?

  • Answer:

This is indeed being investigated for peanut allergies, but in some cases it might just be simpler to avoid peanuts. Most peanut and food allergies do not cause life-threatening anaphylaxis. Only about 0.03% of the population develops anaphylaxis in any given year (all causes combined, not just food), and only about 1% of these people die of it, far less than scary stories and hype would have the public believe. Around 150-200 people per year die of food-triggered anaphylaxis in the United States each year.

Food allergies are different, food allergies are more severe in reaction so they probably will just go into anaphylaxis. not very productive if they need to be treated on a severe level every time they go to the doctor.

because if they did that they would kill you I have had 5 series of immunology shots over my lifetime..each time I got worse to the point I have anaphaylaxic shock (reactions) to things I used to be slightly allergic to One being latex/rubber/elastic.. I have a cousin who has had 2 series..he goes into anaphylaxis shock (reactions) almost immediately after each shot now..so he stopped getting them anaphylaxic shock (reactions ) is when after contact with allergens your body shuts down your organs until you die..they can be swift or take a few days ..they used to call them "Severe Allergic Reactions" I have dealt with them since i was an infant..now 51... thankfully I have good drs who know how to treat my reactions...one time I went to an ER who was clueless, even with my emegency treatment card, they gave me Nitro thinking I was having a heart attack...my heart stopped ...my son kept telling them I was going into shock, but because my BP had spiked, they didn't believe him..finally the dr asked him what he was talking about...4 injections of high doses of Predisone & Benadryl later, they got my heart to start again. sure wish continued contact caused reactions to stop..I'd be allergy free by now Our Pulmonary/Allergist say "the most deadly thing to people with severe reactions is the ignorance of other people thinking it's all psychological. no one has ever died from an anxiety attack. Many more die from severe reactions than is reported due to the fact the medical field doesn't always understand how deadly they really can be...some say it's hypertension..."

Allergies do not work that way. It is not the same as a cold.
