How good are air ionizers at alleviating indoor pet allergies?

Cat allergies and Air Filters?

• So my girlfriend has two cats that are driving my allergies nuts. I've seen the ads for air purifiers that are suppost to help this kind of thing, but I'm kind of sceptical about shelling out $250 for an air filter without a fan. So anyway, has anyone with pet allergies tried one of these new fangled HEPA/Ionized Air filters, do they work well on cat allergies? and is there a type or brand that you'd recommend? Any other tips on treating cat allergies?

The study also found that the majority of U.S. homes have levels that exceed the proposed thresholds for sensitization to these allergens.
