How do I get paint off a pair of sweat pants?

Allergic to pants buttons?

  • I've been receiving allergy shots for 4 years now. Being the redhead with pale skin stereotype, of course I'm allergic to certain metals, scented lotions...yeah, you know the story. The allergy shots have lessened my allergic reactions to metals, but recently an allergic reaction occured to the button on my pants. So, I do what my dermatologist told me to do so man years ago. I paint the button with clear nailpolish and I use a great hydrocortisone cream hoping that would clear it up in a few days. However, it has not. I've painted the button in every pair of pants I own, the hydrocortisone cream only goes so far. I wear a bandaid to block the button from coming in contact with my skin. Of course, the band-aid falls off within a few hours because of constant motion and the friction of rubbing against my pants. I use ice to reduce swelling as well. Until I can get enough money to go to the allergist, does anyone have any good home remedies that I haven't mentioned here?

    Clear nail polish was my first suggestion -- have you re-applied it recently? The thin coat will wear off against your skin, the bandaid, other clothing and in the wash. Tucking in a shirt or wearing 'bigger' underwear to cover the spot while you heal is a good idea, too. (Which is first, fashion or health?) The bandaid may be adding irritation, too -- the adhesive being pulled and rubbed off each day might be the source of the problem, and not the button itself. You've probably developed some resistance to the cream, too, if you've been using it for years. Switch to benedryl (a different kind of allergy medicine) and see if that makes a difference. So - change cream, ditch the band-aids, repaint the buttons, and wear clothing that protects the spot while you heal. Sorry, this probably means 'grandma panties' for a few days, but you'll survive.

get an old t-shirt, cut out a square and sew it over top of the inside button spot. That will keep it from contacting your skin and hopefully heal up. or wear a skirt that just pulls on. or has a plastic zipper. (i suppose you could wear track pants or something when tidiness is not an issue too. Liek around the house.

It's a secret

Instead of nail polish, you could try paint on the back side of the button. Be sure to coat it thoroughly. Make sure your pants are not too snug. You can look for pants that do not have metal buttons or that close with a wide hook and clasp (if you are female this is not an uncommon style of closure for slacks) then you won't have anything coming in contact with your skin. You could also try sewing patches on the backs of the buttons so that the metal is covered with a scrap of fabric.

Wow, and I thought my mother's allergies were bad. Bless your heart. I wish I knew of some remedies for the allergies. That really would be preferable. Until then, try this. Can you get the buttons off? Even if they're not sewn on, they can be removed sometimes. The fabric underneath can be stitched closed, and a plastic button put in its place. I've done that before when I had that kind of button break off. If you need help, contact a place that does alterations. They may be able to help you change the buttons. Good luck to you. Hello I have the same problem. I feel your pain, my skins breaking out too, because I bought a new belt, and forgot to protect my skin from it. Your right;the creams only go so far, and the polish so long. What I did with mine was the first suggestion. Take an old shirt and cut it to cover it. I also started to look for pants with plaistic buttens instead of metel...They are out there I swear! :) I also tried a higher strength "polish" for it. Sometimes you can find a high stick polish to apply. The best thing you can do is try all of these things and see which works the best for you. Good Luck! I have found that trying a new cream will help loads! I have the highest perscription you can get, but it stopped working!
