Is this normal for a wasp sting to be swollen and itchy?

How to reduce swelling from a wasp sting?

  • How do I reduce swelling from a wasp sting? So yesterday a wasp (not a bee) stung me on my right ring finger and ever since (it's been 26 hours) it's been very swollen, not to mention very painful. I have tried Campho Phenique for the itching, which helped, but it did not bring down the swelling. I have also tried soaking it in baking soda water, applying a baking soda paste, and calamine lotion, none of which have worked. I am also taking Benadryl. Also, I do not have access to chewing tobacco so that's not really an option. My Mom and I both checked it for a stinger and there wasn't one in the wound. Thanks in advance for all your help!!

It sounds like you're doing all the right things. I think it just takes a while for the swelling to go away depending on where the sting is...

Well u should have iced it as soon as you got stung but you can try soaking it in warm Epsom salts mixes with water u can get them at a place like cvs pharmacy And if you go there get a heating pad it's a pad that's just heats up when you Olaf it in and apply the heat but not to much so u don't make it hurt more hope they helped

put some vinegar onto a bit of tissue and press it gently on the sting for about 10 mins. My mum used to do this to me and my siblings when we were kids. it's like magic. good luck xxxx

ice to numb the pain

Tobacco works the best but since you thats not an option for you then try and epipen which helps really well with swelling. Since its been swollen for so long you might be allergic to them which is somewhat common and the epipen will help or the stinger could still be lodged in there, if this is the case then you should use the tobbacco because it will help draw it out the skin. Or you can... take a dull object like a card and scrape it over the skin until the stinger comes out (or you can use tweezers.) wash the area and then apply ice for ten minutes keep taking the benadryl and apply antihistamines creams. I hope this helps. Good Luck!
