Can I be allergic to Chocolate?

Can you be allergic to peanut butter and chocolate mixed but not separately?

  • So my sister had a friend stay over night and they had bought candy at stewarts. My sister offered her friend a reeses and she goes "I can't because I am allergic to chocolate and peanut butter mixed. But it's really weird because I can eat peanut butter and peanuts and chocolate by themselves." I go "How is that possible? You can eat a chocolate bar and a peanut butter sandwich but not together that doesn't make any sense." Then her mother tells me the same thing. Are these people delusional or is that actually possible?

  • Answer:

I don't think this is possible. they must have got their wires crossed somehow.

Other answers

Maybe there is some sort of other ingredient included in the mixture that she is allergic to, rather than the mixture of peanut butter and chocolate?

Yes. Allergies present difficult and complex problems. Some people with allergies to milk and dairy products find that they can tolerate reconstituted milk, for example, but not fresh milk. People who have no experience with allergies should refrain from passing judgment on people who are coping with the condition. If someone tells you they are allergic to peanuts, please don't say, "Oh, a few won't hurt you."
