What allergy medication work for 3 year old?

Answer:
Be very careful. Many allergy meds currently on the market can cause behavioral side-effects in a major way, among other things. Specifically, Zyrtec, Singulair, Claritin/Loratadine are a few that I am familiar with. Night terrors, suicidal thoughts, hallucinations, anger, aggression, anxiety, even insomnia are among the concerns. The sad part about this is that normally a person would not recognize that an allergy medication could cause these types of reactions. Read about side effects and others' experiences with each medication before you consider it for your child. Askapatient.com is helpful for gathering information and then keep a close eye on your child if you do choose to proceed. You may even want to keep a notebook when beginning any new medication. We use saline (salt solution) drops in the nose before bed. A good old-fashioned onion is a good way to clear nasal passages. We have also resorted to smelling horseraddish to get things moving. Massage of nasal pressure points can help. A diluted Grapefruit Seed Extract solution has many uses and is antibactierial, antiviral, and antifungal. Drops in the nose are useful for clearing sinus infection and is a great alternative to the typical marketed nasal sprays, since GSE is not addictive. We are looking into the many uses of Oregano Oil as well. Both of these are relatively easy to come by. ClearMyHead.com offers an excellent roll-on inhalation solution that is applied to the outside of the nose/upper lip, usually before bed. It is very minty smelling and helps to open the nasal passages. This can also be fun for a little person. You might think it strange to go to such great lengths to avoid prescription drugs and other synthetic preparations, but for us, it's worth the peace of mind that comes with knowing that these natural things are much less likely to damage or hinder their little bodies. If all else fails, propping the head back, causing the mouth to open (picture the way people often sleep on an airplane with their mouth hanging open) can allow a child/person to breath through the mouth while sleeping. Good luck and God bless.

Simple Truth
Over the counter allergy medicine is in liquid form at half the strength of adult dosages. However, it is an oral dose, therefore hitting a childs system faster by way of absorbtion. The child is young, so I would consult a physician as to correct dosage by weight, just in case.
