Why is my eye swollen?

Why is my eye itchy, and eyelid swollen/red?

  • So my right eye has been itching ever since last night, my mom's boyfriend suggesting getting a cool wash cloth and putting in on my eye, so I did. I guess it kind of relieves the pain a bit, but not fully. When I woke up this morning, I saw my eye lid was a little swollen and red. Currently I'm still putting a cold wash cloth on it, because I don't know what else to do. But then I got to thinking... this ***** in my history class did say she had pink eye, and she sat right next to me! Why would you go to school with pink eye, that nasty ****? So anyway, that was yesterday, the same day that my eye starting itching! I decided not to go to school today, I don't want to spread it to anyone, and I'm kinda hoping deep down that it is just a stye. My actual eye isn't red, just the upper eyelid is red and swollen, but also my lower eye lid is really itchy and kinda red too. I'm so worried! Is there any way if someone could tell me what this sounds like, and how to heal it. (Any home remedies if possible!) Even some pain relief would be great at this point! That history *****.

  • Answer:

Depends on what kind of pink-eye it is. Judging by your description, it's either a viral or bacterial pink-eye. There's really no cure for viral pink-eye, so the best you can do is just wait for it to get better (usually in about 3-4 days). If it's bacterial pink-eye, you should go to your doctor, they usually have some sort of antibiotics to get rid of it faster (usually about 24 hours). Sometimes pink-eye can be caused by allergies. Try to figure out if you're allergic to anything, and get rid of it immediatelly.

go to the chemist and ask to speak to the Pharmacist they will give you something to stop the itch. Don't touch your eye or wear make up until it's gone.

You need to see a doctor for an accurate diagnosis and I urge you to do so. Bacterial conjunctivitis (pink eye) can cause eye damage if left untreated.
