What can I do about my allergies at night?

Fiance has allergies, itching ears & throat much worse at night? what can we do?

  • My Fiance has Ezcema and also suffers from alergies. He gets very itchy ears and throat every night, and last night it kept us awake for hours! He has an allergy cover on his pillow, our cat is never allowed in the bedroom, and I change the bedding maybe every 2 weeks. He uses a nasal spray (Beconase) before bed but it does nothing. I wondered if it might be the ear plugs he wears? (our house in on a main road, and without his ear plugs he cannot get to sleep at all). Anyone got any ideas? I can often hear him trying to 'scratch' his throat in his sleep. Its such an annoying noise! Please help its driving us both mad >:-z

  • Answer:

Sounds like classic dust mite allergy. "An allergy cover on his pillow" won't cut it. The mattress, boxspring, and every pillow in the bedroom should be covered. The sheets should be washed every 7 days in 140 degree water or either with De-Mite to remove the allergens. If possible, remove any carpeting and rugs from the bedroom. Keep the number of dust catchers in the room to a minimum. No draperies, if you must have curtains, make sure they are washable and wash weekly in De-Mite or spray them once a month with ADMS spray. The reason he is worse at night is because that is when he is exposed the most the dust mite allergens. Dust mites are microscopic creatures that are found in fibers. They feed on shed human skin cells and their body and feces has a protein (Der f1) that many people's immune systems incorrectly identify. Go ahead and keep the cat out of the bedroom, and in addition, I would rub some Allerpet all over that cat and spray any place the cat sleeps with the ADMS spray. What you need to do is get rid of his exposure to the allergens, not get rid of the ear plugs. Once you make the room dust mite proof he will sleep better, the eczema will clear and both of you won't be going mad any more. I'm going to give you links to articles about dust mites and how to set up a dust mite proof room as well as a link to the De-Mite stuff that I wash with. I have terrible dust mite allergies and by doing these things I live without symptoms and I rarely have to take medicine. Good Luck!

sounds like dust allergy to your fiancee, Road dust, Building dust, Pollen Grain from trees, Migrane makes most of the allergies. But this problem you said sounds like Dust allergies, it causes throat problems, itching at ears. Also, that ear plugs should kept in clean place nobody should use it. Nobody should use his things it may also cause the allergies. At present he should not drink cool drinks like cola drinks, lemon things and all. If possible shift your place otherwise it may worsens. Tell him to use the baby soaps to his skin.

You "change the bedding every two weeks" we change ours every three days and wash it with hot water. If you have dust mites this is enabling them. He should see an allergist, maybe the ear plugs and what they're made of are doing it. It sounds like it's a bedtime thing and, you should start by changing the bedding every three days, the top covers also, vacuum the floor. We vacuum the mattress and especially around the seams, then flip it, every two weeks. The drapes the dust in the room. Everything. keep the cats out of the room, period, wash them once a week. If he gets any of there dander on him that will do it.
