Why can't humans sneeze with their eyes open?

  • I've always wondered this!

  • Answer:

It is just a reflex response. It has nothing to do with eyes popping out or getting micro-organisms in your eyes - these are old wives tales.

I think it's a reflex to protect your eyes from all the debris flying out of your mouth that could potentially harm your delicate eyes.

It's a reflex. If we were to sneeze with our eyes open, our eyeballs would pop out from the amount of pressure.

I can, but I have to put a lot effort into it! It's actually really hard, but I guess we don't want the sneeze to get in our eyes lol
