Your sinuses are cavities... empty spaces. Needless to ,say a "normal headache' does not last for 4 days. When you move your head does it feel like a "wave of pressure" that moves? That would indicate the presence of an "air fluid level" which would mean most likely a sinus infection. The person whose doctor told them that you can use Flonase (corticosteroids) without concern is wrong. Long term use of inhaled steroids contributes to gum recession. I have suffered from chronic, bilateral maxillary sinusitis for 40 years. The link below is from WebMD and tells you all you need to know. Symptomatic relief: over the counter decongestants like Sudafed. The sore throat is most likely the byproduct of your sinuses drainaing the excess mucous down the back of your throat while sleeping. Would not be surprised if you wake up feeling a bit nauseous in the morning. Use vapor bath to help relieve the congestion. Another way to break up the congestion (causing the pain) is with warm compresses over your forehead, nose, and cheeks. For immediate relief you can use a nasal spray like Afrin (buy the store brand) but do not use more than 3 days in a row. Longer use results in "rebound congestion" which is even worse. Use saline spray regularly to keep your mucous membranes moist. If you don't get relief within a few days it is time to see your doctor for an antibiotic. Quick medic tip... if you want to know if you have sinusitis without going to the doctor grab a penlight flashlight, go into your bathroom (need a mirror). Put the penlight flash light right up against the roof of your mouth, shut out the bathroom light. If you look like a "jack-o-lantern" (the light shines through brightly) then there is no air fluid level and most likely it is not sinusitis. If the light is dull and hard to see that is the fluid in your sinus cavities blocking the light. That, is a sinus infection. For your sore throat gargle every few hours with warm salt water. 1 tsp. salt to 6 ozs. of water. Good luck.

I would just like to add that an allergies to dairy products even just a sensitivity can make the mucus build up in the nose and even in severe cases create chronic sinus infections and or ear infections in young kids. So maybe try cutting out the dairy too.

My friend, I sympathize. I've experienced the same thing for years. Doc said it WAS a sinus infection. Tech: the tubes that drain the sinuses are so small & point upwards(leftover from when we walked on all fours?) that ANY clog keeps the sinuses from draining, they back up, get infected & you're in hell. Actifed/sudfed help. Sometimes he prescribed a strong anti-biotic to get rid of it, but that's tough 'cause the medicine has a hard time effecting the sinuses. Best thing I used was a prescription nasal spray with a steroid, like Flonase. Takes a few days, but works great, especially when you have a month long headache. Problem is the headaches come back, so rather then spray with a steriod all the time (& the doc said that's ok, no problems with long term usage) I find that dinking a lotta water, irrigating my nose with a saline solution (sounds gross, but it works) & staying away from certain foods(for me its a lot of grains) does the trick. Also, when I was at a gym with a steam room, I NEVER got a sinus infection. So, without a steamroom, that old movie trick about a bowl of steaming water & hanging your head over it with a towel...it helps! Here's a site from the doctor that told me about Flonase: http://www.sinuses.com/allergy.htm

If you are having headaches on the front of the head just above the eyebrows ( known as frontal headaches), then it is a sure sign of sinus infection. Some people also feel discomfort in the areas just above the eyeball but below the eyebrows. This type of pain is known as sinus headaches caused by sinus pressure. Sinus pressure is caused by abnormal amounts of mucus produced by inflamed mucosal lining of the sinuses. These mucus are thick, glue-like and jelly-like. So it is difficult to be discharged by the cilia of the mucosal lining. To know more about sinus infection, the following resources can help you understand the condition better: 1.
